I’ve been playing The Sims for years, since the first game scarred my young self with the knowledge that overlapping rugs are key if you want to set the whole room ablaze simultaneously 💀🔥 In the last few years though, it’s become something more than just a fun game — it’s become a kind of wellness tool for me.
That might sound dramatic, but hear me out. As a student, a mum of two little ones, a disabled woman with a heart condition and someone with a lot of mental tabs open at once (hello, PhD dreams!), I’ve learned how important it is to make space for my downtime. And for me, that often looks like curling up with a warm drink and diving into the creative world of The Sims.
There’s something incredibly calming about building tiny homes, creating stories, and watching my Sims potter around living their best, cute lives. It’s not just escapism — it’s a way of reconnecting with my imagination, finding joy in small details, and allowing my brain to switch gears without going into scroll-mode. It also helps me reflect on what I value: gentle routines, meaningful relationships, and creative expression.
The Sims is a game, yes — but it’s also a wellness tool in disguise. It helps me recharge, soften, and remind myself that rest is productive too.
I’ll be sharing more of my Sims stories here — alongside all the other messy, beautiful things I’m learning about wellness, research, and slow living. If you’re also a cozy gamer (or want to be!), you’re very welcome here 🌷
