Hey, I’m Sharnie — and if we haven’t met yet, I’m a biology student, mum, slow wellness lover, and hopeful future PhD-er. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot (and I mean a lot) about how social media — especially Instagram — shapes what we know and believe about our health, our cycles, and our bodies.
Like so many people, I’ve learned heaps from Instagram: from tracking my cycle to understanding fertility awareness, to hearing real stories about trying to conceive, loss, chronic conditions, or just everyday hormonal chaos. But I’ve also seen a lot of confusion, pressure, and well… aesthetic overload. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s empowering, what is misinformation – either unintentional or what’s just marketing in soft pink.
That’s where my research idea was born. I want to explore how fertility influencers are shaping women’s understanding and decision-making — and what that means for health, trust, and how we care for ourselves in digital spaces. I’ll be applying for a PhD to dig into this through interviews, digital ethnography, and a good helping of curiosity and care.
I’ll be sharing bits of that journey here — alongside cozy Sims stories, wellness thoughts, and quiet life updates from my kitchen table with a cup of tea in hand. ☕💗
Thanks so much for reading — and if you’ve ever learned (or unlearned!) something about your body from Instagram, I’d love to hear your story too.
